FierceWireless Presents: The Path to 4G

Start Date:  3/23/2010

Start Time:  11:00 AM
End Time:  5:30 PM

Location:  Las Vegas Convention Center − Room N260

Mobile WiMAX is paving the way to 4G in the U.S. with the launch of data services from Clearwire and its wholesale partners including Sprint, Comcast and Time Warner. On the LTE front, Verizon Wireless says it’s on track to deploy this technology in 2010 with AT&T following soon thereafter in 2011. But it’s time for a reality check when it comes to 4G network performance, applications and devices.

Join FierceWireless as we debate the best way for operators to deliver voice and video over 4G networks. We’ll provide insight into what types of innovative 4G devices are on the horizon. You’ll also hear from 4G operators as they formulate business plans to differentiate their 4G offerings from existing 3G mobile services.

Opening Keynote Presentation: The transition to LTE

11:45 a.m. — 12:30 p.m.
Beyond the USB dongle—innovative devices for 4G networks

Early 4G devices have typically been USB dongle or the personal hotspots targeted primarily at laptop users. But the possibilities for multimodal hybrid 4G devices are endless. How are today’s 4G WiMAX devices resonating with consumers? What WiMAX and LTE devices are on the horizon?

12:30 p.m. — 1:30 p.m.
Lunch—Keynote Presentation: Deploying HSPA 7.2 before migrating to LTE

1:30 p.m. — 2:15 p.m.
Delivering voice, video and other applications in a 4G world

How will voice, video and messaging services be delivered over 4G networks? Will carriers finally deploy IMS solutions so they can deliver next-applications such as VOIP and video to consumers? This panel will explore the various options available and discuss how carriers will use their 4G networks to more effectively deliver applications.

2:15 p.m. — 3:00 p.m.
Managing backhaul for 4G networks

Migrating to a 4G network will require operators to retool everything from their network core to the base station to the backhaul. What must carriers do to make backhaul for their 4G networks more efficient and cost effective?

3:00 p.m. — 3:15 p.m.
Presentation TBA

3:15 p.m. — 4:00 p.m.
How to differentiate your 4G data offering

How are 4G operators going to differentiate their 4G offerings from 3G? Will cable operators sell 4G as an add-on service to their cable customers? Is speed enough to make consumers upgrade from 3G to 4G? What role will applications, devices and network coverage play in this new 4G world?

4:00 p.m. — 4:15 p.m.
Presentation TBA

4:15 p.m. — 5:00 p.m.
